The purpose and vision are
1. To provide mediation services globally and in particular Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados, Canada, United States of America and United Kingdom.
2. To provide Mediation Training.
3. Sensitisation of Mediation and other ADR methods to improve the civil justice system.

Civil Procedure Rules 2016
6 February 2017 - Guyana's Civil Procedure Rules 2016 (CPR) came into operation and Part 26 gives the court the power to order Mediation.
The Family (Proceedings and Procedure) Rules 2016
9 February 2016 - The Family (Proceedings and Procedure) Rules 2016 were published and set out the overriding objective to include encouraging settlement of disputes by mediation. See Rules 1.1(2)(b) and 13.1(c) The power to refer matters to mediation is set out at Rule 15.5.
Alternative Dispute Resolution Act 2010
Tthe Alternative Dispute Resolution Act Cap. 7.05, section 4 states that the Court may, by order, refer a matter, other than criminal proceedings, for mediation, if the court considers the the circumstances appropriate and whether or not parties to the proceedngs consent to the referral.

Mediation was introduced in Guyana in 2003.

A Mediation Centre was established within the compound of the High Court of the Supreme Court of Judicature at Georgetown, Guyana.
